Youth Director
Location: Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas
Position Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Executive Director
Base Pay Scale: $80K – $100K
Job Status: FLSA Exempt
Job Summary:
The MAS DFW Youth Director believes in our vision and mission, and has the passion to help us realize our strategy. The Youth Director will collaborate with the Youth Tarbiya Team to introduce, plan, and execute programs that offer opportunities for the personal development and spiritual nourishment of the youth. This should ultimately result in a generation of agents of change that have defined passions and developed leadership skills.
Main Responsibilities:
- Strategic Vision: Works closely with the Executive Director and the Youth Tarbiya Coordinators to develop and implement a comprehensive long-term and annual plan for the Youth Department that includes spiritual, social, athletic, educational, and service-based programming to recruit and funnel in youth ages 10-17 into the MAS chapter and our tarbiya system so as to meet the strategic goals set by the board.
- Event-Planning: Plan and execute a consistent, timely, seasonal, age-segmented, and dynamic calendar of events and projects that meet the needs and interests of local Muslim youth within and outside of the MAS Dallas Center.
- Sensitivity Culture: Deal with the concerns of the youth with respect, tact, and sensitivity, whilst remaining confidential and professional. Create a welcoming, engaging and judgment-free environment to attract youth of diverse backgrounds.
- Team Leadership: Build, lead, and mentor a team and sub-committees of diverse, competent leaders and volunteers, with weekly meetings, and Islamic-driven leadership development. Identify potential successors and develop individual plans for them.
- School Outreach & Student Support: Lead outreach, recruitment and relationship-building with local MSAs, youth organizations, and other Muslim student groups in middle schools and high schools to expand our youth impact and funnel into our MAS & tarbiya programs.
- Islamic Mentorship: Provide prophetic mentorship and basic Islamic education to youth through public-speaking, 1:1 relationships, tracking youth growth, and modeling exemplary Islamic behavior.
- Cross-Departmental Collaborations: Actively collaborate with other MAS departments, such as Tarbiya, PACE, and Marketing, to integrate youth efforts into broader organizational campaigns, da’wah, and advocacy work.
- National Coordination: Coordinate with the MAS National Youth Director and other local centers to align on projects, goals, training, and exchange best practices.
- Evaluation: Track and evaluate program performance, respond to evolving youth needs & interests, and ensure all efforts remain relevant, professional, impactful, and values-centered by creating and maintaining an updated database and managing the communication platforms of the youth department.
- Administrative Responsibilities: Report regularly to the Executive Director, attend Executive Council meetings, contribute to strategic discussions about community growth and engagement, and abide by the chapter’s protocols and systems of operation.
- Budget and Funding: Assist in preparing the annual budget and contribute in raising funds for the youth department.
- Professional Development: Attend regular training and mentorship opportunities as provided by the chapter and national team, which are provided virtually, locally, and in other cities. This includes making time in your week to be in an usra – an intensive, communal mentorship circle.
- MAS Ambassadorship: Have a well-rounded understanding of and belief in the MAS movement, and effectively communicate MAS messaging to recruit youth successfully into the movement. Become a MAS Member and maintain membership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in humanities, youth, human services, social sciences or Islamic scholarship. (Though experience is more sought after).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in youth work, Islamic educational work, or community program development and implementation.
- Familiarity and experience with MAS and MAS methodology
- Basic knowledge and understanding of Islam with a commitment to continued learning
- Previous youth leadership or community organizing experience with diverse groups of youth and young adults
- Experience planning and executing large scale events, programs, and initiatives
- Volunteered or worked within a MAS Chapter or other known faith-based institutions
- Excellent public speaking, presentation, verbal and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others in a team environment
- Ability to network with internal and external communities
- Deadline and detail-orientation with demonstrated ability to deliver on commitments
Further Details:
- Reports directly to the Executive Director
- Minimum of 40 hours a week, mostly in-person with some remote work.
- Must have availability on Friday evenings, weekends, and after school hours.
- Continuous training and education expense sponsored.
- Comfortable traveling to other schools and masajid across the city.
- Comfortable traveling to other cities for training, camps, and MAS programs.
